Murder on the Inside
The True Story of the Deadly Riot at Kingston Penitentiary
By: Catherine Fogarty
If you are interested
in politics, history, jail riots and behind the cover up stories, then this
might be the book for you.
Murder on
the Inside, is a story about the grimsum truth about what happened inside the
Kingston Penitentiary Riot.
The author transforms
you in such a way, that you feel as if you are right there, reliving these stories.
The thing I loved most about this book is how it allowed you to see the riot
from all sides of the story. I find that most true story novels, tell you from their side of the
story, or the writing allows you to feel like they have taken a side of the story.
However, with this truth baring story, all sides of the story are laid out for you
to make your own conclusion about the events that took place.
This story
holds back nothing, really allows you to see the depths behind the walls of Kingston
Penitentiary Prison. It is eye opening to a small piece of history.
At times
you do find yourself lost in the information, as the author doesn’t hold back
any details. But if you push through those moments the story that forms, paints
a beautifully written tragedy. This book brings focus back to the reasoning
behind the riot; the fight for human rights. It allows for the prisoners voice to
be heard again rather then the continuation tale of convicts equal “bad
people”.
“We’ve lost
our civil rights and now we are on the verge of losing our human rights.”-
